Question
How can we translate “no longer” from English to Hindi?
Answer
Let’s think about how we use this phrase in English. Someone could say: “I no longer smoke cigarettes”, or “I will wait no longer”, or “Wait no longer than two hours”.
“अब और” can be used to mean “no longer”:
हम यह दुर्व्यवहार अब और नहीं सहेंगे – “We won’t tolerate this abuse any longer” OR “We will tolerate this abuse no longer!”
“अब” can be used to mean “no longer”:
मैं अब सिगरेट्स नहीं पीता – “I no longer smoke cigarettes”
“से ज़यादा” can be used to translate “no longer” in a comparison, e.g.:
दो घंटे से ज़यादा इंतज़ार मत करो – “Wait no longer than two hours”
Of course, there are more ways to say this too, but these are a few common patterns.
