से अच्छा हो कि

There is an expression in Hindi which is like the English expressions “I’d rather…”, or “it would be better if”; consider a few examples:

उस लड़के से शादी करने से अच्छा हो कि मैं मर जाऊं – “I’d rather die than marry that boy!”

Alternatively: मैं उस लड़के से शादी करूं, इससे अच्छा हो कि मैं मर जाऊं

उस लड़की के साथ रहने से अच्छा होता कि मैं भालू के साथ रहती – “I would have been better off living with a bear than with that girl!” (used with a contrafactual subjunctive in this example)

अलग-अलग जाने से अच्छा हो कि हम एक साथ जाएं – “It would be better if we go together than if we go separately”
